- Top Tool or Top Dies are machined to precision and mate with press fit parts and press these parts into the PCB without damaging them. Top tool or top die provide an interface between the ram, the component, and the board. Without a top die the component pins may it bend or pull out the leads, plastic part damge instead of pressing into the PCB.
